URGENT Help for Philliphines: Donate a Device Reboot a Life

The campaign is making an urgent call for donations of the following communication and support equipment (in good working condition):

  • Devices that are Wi-Fi capable and consume low power (laptops, tablets, smartphones), and
  • Generators, solar panels, batteries, and inverters (with power strips).

Dear ITAP members and other members of the ICT Community:

We are deeply saddened by the tragedy brought about by Typhoon Yolanda, and we strongly feel that the ICT community needs to be involved in the recovery efforts. While other groups are perhaps better positioned to offer medical assistance and provide for basic needs, we believe that as members of the ICT community, we are uniquely positioned to assist in restoring connectivity and communications, which are much needed for collaborating relief and rehabilitation efforts, and for creating a lifeline of hope to those victims who are struggling to piece their lives back together.

Thus, the ITAP Board of Directors has decided to allocate our Christmas Party budget to launch a campaign which we are calling “Donate a Device, Reboot a Life”. We are also calling upon all other members of the ICT Community to join us in this campaign.

In coordination with the DOST’s ICT Office, NetHope, and emergency.lu, we aim to establish far-flung ICT connectivity centers in Leyte, Samar, Palawan and Panay. The connectivity centers will enable coordination between the Disaster Response Teams as well as re-establish ties between victims and their families locally and abroad. Your donated devices will allow victims to exchange emails, do video calls, make plans, explore opportunities, and most importantly, rekindle hope.

We are making an urgent call for donations of the following communication and support equipment (in good working condition):

  • Devices that are wi-fi capable and consume low power (laptops, tablets, smartphones), and
  • Generators, solar panels, batteries, and inverters (with power strips).

These will initially be deployed in the ICT connectivity centers, which will be connected to the Internet via satellite or microwave radios (for long-haul) and TV white space radios (for last mile). Eventually, we envision that the devices and radios can be recycled during the rehabilitation stage to rebuild the community’s education and health centers.

We need the equipment above urgently so please target immediate delivery.

Please deliver the equipment to the Telof Building at Don A. Roces Avenue corner Scout Reyes, Quezon City, care of Beverly Camacho, who can be contacted at +63-908-895-3035. Please remember to provide the ITAP Secretariat with a detailed list of your donations, by emailing Lani Laroza at secretariat@itaphil.com. If you have questions, or if you wish to make a cash donation, please contact Lani at +63-917-896-7557.

Let us unite as one ICT Community and show the world the Filipino spirit of bayanihan!

Very Truly Yours,

The ITAP Board of Directors
