According to citation ready by the university’s orator, Prof. Sunday Ajayi, Omatek Ventures Plc, the multi billion naira holding company that manufactures computers and sundry electronic products, which Florence Seriki founded from training people on how to use computer as a youth corps member, is the product of nothing more than hard work, determination and ability to identify opportunities.

He said for Seriki's gaint achievement in this respect, she is today being being compared to Bill Gates of the Microsoft fame.

“Aggressive and insatiable for success, Seriki was from get-go determined to conquer her world. She was determined to take a plunge, moving from vending to manufacturing of computers, an adventure which many of her peers thought was unattainable then. In fact, the dream was then perceived as a child's play by some who derisively tagged her and her team as 'the clone people’,” Ajayi said in the citation.

But Ajayi said Seriki, a chemical engineer from the Obafemi Awolowo, Ile-Ife, Osun State, remained undeterred and by 2000, the idea which started in 1993 when the first Omatek computers was launched at the then Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation conference, came into being when Omatek Ventures had another subsidiary with the birth of Omatek Computers Limited.

Operating at 25 per cent capacity utilisation, the Omatek Computer factory rolls out, per annum, 120,000 speakers, 120,000 casings and 48,000 fully-built PCs.
