TechAmerica Announces Mike Hettinger as New Leader of Public Sector

Washington, DC – TechAmerica, the leading U.S. technology trade association, is pleased to announce that Mike Hettinger, a leader in the public sector technology industry, will be joining the association as the Senior Vice President for Public Sector. He brings extensive experience from Capitol Hill, a public sector company and the trade association world.

“Mike’s experience is rare in the industry,” said Shawn Osborne, President & CEO of TechAmerica. “Over nearly two decades, he has covered every base of the public sector, including working on issues of importance to our industry in Congress, as a business leader and most recently with a leading industry association.”

“We were fortunate to have many outstanding candidates, several referred by our board and members, but Mike stood out. His extensive experience will enable TechAmerica to increase our leadership in this sector to the benefit of our members,” concluded Mr. Osborne.

Mike joins TechAmerica from the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), where he served as the Vice President for the Public Sector Innovation Group. Prior to joining SIIA, he served as Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector Practice Executive Director overseeing Strategic Planning and Market Development, where he was responsible for firm-wide strategic business planning, federal marketing, and external relations.

“I am thrilled that Mike has chosen to join us. His experience in the Public Sector and familiarity with our members will ensure he can hit the ground running and help lead the execution of our public sector board’s 2014 roadmap,” said Robin Lineberger, Chairman of the TechAmerica Public Sector board.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Mike was the staff director of the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform, Subcommittee on Government Management, Finance and Accountability. Under his leadership, the subcommittee conducted more than 55 hearings on the financial systems, financial reporting and management requirements of laws such as the Chief Financial Officers Act, the Inspector General Act, the Federal Financial Management Improvement Act, the Accountability of Tax Dollars Act and the Debt Collection Improvement Act. He also oversaw the quality examination of agencies’ strategic planning, and performance goals and reports in accordance with the Government Performance and Results Act and led oversight of the implementation of federal financial management systems.

Mike has an extensive background in public affairs, having served as a Public Policy Counselor at Patton Boggs LLP, where he oversaw large-scale lobbying and public affairs campaigns. Prior to joining Patton Boggs, he was Chief of Staff to Representative Tom Davis of Virginia. Mike has been a frequent speaker at management conferences over the past 10 years on topics ranging from internal control reporting requirements, to the implementation of federal IT systems, to the overall need to reform federal management practices.

Mike will join the TechAmerica team on January 6, 2014.

A media roundtable with Mike will be held January 8, 2014 at TechAmerica from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reporters will have a chance to meet Mike and hear about his priorities for the public sector at TechAmerica.
