WELCOME TO NEW ZEALAND! TECHWEEK ’17 (6-14 MAY 2017



Welcome to New Zealand! Techweek ’17 is taking place across the country from 6-14 May 2017. With New Zealand’s tech and innovation ecosystem on show, it’s the perfect opportunity to begin exploring this innovation hub of the Asia-Pacific.

From 6-14 May 2017, around 200 events will take place in 15 cities and towns across New Zealand. These events are curated around the theme of ‘finding local answer to global questions’ and range from a national showcase of New Zealand Agricultural Technologies, to an international Blockchain conference, to a gathering of NZ’s AR/VR practitioners, through to ‘Mission to Mars’ – reinventing STEM education, and interactive art installations at galleries across the country.

Five global questions that NZ technology and innovation are finding answers for are featured in this year’s programme;

ENVIRONMENTAL SHIFT | Concerning climate change and creating healthy, physical environments and cities.

EQUALITY | Tackling the global issue of diversity and inequality.

THE FUTURE OF FOOD | Rethinking food systems, production and philosophies.

NEXT GENERATION | Focusing on youth, education, and creating future leaders.

SCALING IMPACT | Technologies and business models for sustainable growth and global impact.

Farming 2020 | Showcasing Agriculture’s Digital Futureis running from 9-11 May at the LIC Innovation Farm just out of Hamilton, bringing together key players in NZ’s 3 billion dollar world-leading AgTech industry as well as Silicon Valley’s best and brightest, and highlighting how digital innovation will positively impact agriculture’s long-term future globally. It will include agricultural robotic, drone and on-farm sensor demos. Come and see how NZ-grown AgTech is helping to feed the world sustainably.

The Blockchain.NZis running from 8-9 May at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre, Auckland. The most significant Blockchain event in the Asia-Pacific, this is the first time leading global Blockchain experts are speaking at a single event. Confirmed speakers include the founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, and renowned expert Andreas Antonopolous. Blockchain technology is going to change the way society operates, it’s currently best known for its potential to revolutionalise the global economy.

Future Realities is running across 10-13 May at multiple locations in Wellington and Auckland, taking an immersive deep dive into transformative trends in virtual and augmented reality and IoT.  Join leading New Zealand and international visionaries, technicians, entrepreneurs & storytellers and immerse yourself in exponential technologies.

MaD for the Future | Manufacturing & Design a national conference for innovation in manufacturing and design. Running 10-11 May in Auckland this event will showcase a complement of activities and engagements for the benefit of MaD researchers, MaD industry partners and innovators. Revealing the latest innovation in manufacturing and design from leading universities and crown research institutes.

Magnify AR/VR Expo & Business Summit is running 7-8 May at SkyCity in Auckland. A showcase of the lastest AR and VR technologies from New Zealand and international companies. Delve into the new world of gaming, here from top Hollywood producers and the lasts from China. Combining the largest public VR technology expo with a business to business sessions including 25 international speakers discussing the future of this high growth technology sector.
