WITSA today issued letters requesting the intervention of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein to help secure the release of Mr. Nizar Zakka, a U.S. permanent resident of Lebanese citizenship imprisoned in Tehran, Iran. WITSA also sent letters to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations as well as the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Zakka is one of WITSA’s directors and a vice-chairman of WITSA’s Middle East, Northern Africa region.  Mr Zakka did not return from Tehran after participating in the Second International Conference & Exhibition on Women in Sustainable Development on September 18, 2015.

WITSA is very concerned about Mr. Zakka’s personal safety, his family and-well-being.   It is very important that this matter be resolved as quickly as possible.
